With diverse backgrounds spanning private equity, industry, consulting and finance, Doughty Hanson's investment team is one of the most experienced groups investing in European private equity.

Our team of experienced investment professionals provides broad regional coverage from seven offices across Europe. Supported by a team of senior associates and analysts, locally-based professionals take responsibility for individual markets, reporting to the co-heads of the private equity business.

Matt joined Doughty Hanson in 2004 and has a particular focus on UK and German buyouts.  He also focuses on the financial services sector.

Prior to this, he worked for PricewaterhouseCoopers in Transaction Services in London and Frankfurt and in the audit department in London.

Matt qualified as a chartered accountant (ACA) in September 2000 and has a degree in Modern Languages (MA) from St. Edmund Hall, Oxford University.

Alessandro joined Doughty Hanson in 2005 and primarily focuses on investments in Italy.

Previously, he worked in the Corporate Finance Department at PricewaterhouseCoopers in London for six years and as a Management Consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Milan for two years.

Alessandro has a degree with honours in Management and Economics from the Bocconi University in Milan.

Phillippa joined Doughty Hanson in 2006 to provide research to support the investment activities of the private equity team.

She joined from LongAcre Partners, a corporate finance boutique specialising in the Media sector. There she was responsible for establishing and managing the research department when the company launched in 2000 and working closely with a team of corporate finance analysts. Previously, she spent two years as a senior research associate in corporate finance at PricewaterhouseCoopers.

Adam joined Doughty Hanson as Head of Sustainability in 2008. His primary focus is to address Environmental, Social and Governance risks and opportunities across Doughty Hanson’s portfolio companies. Working alongside portfolio company management, Adam seeks to create value, manage risk and enhance reputation through the identification, implementation and management of a range of sustainability initiatives. These include programmes relating to the environment and climate change, fair labour and health and safety.

He has over eighteen years of experience as a specialist practitioner in the ESG arena. Prior to joining Doughty Hanson Adam worked in industry (Halliburton Inc), in environmental consultancy (Environmental Resources Management Limited) and in the Sustainability Practice of KPMG in London.

Adam is a Chartered Environmental (CEnv) and a Chartered Health and Safety (CMIOSH) specialist holding a BSc in Environmental Science and Masters Degrees in Environmental Law and in Occupational Health and Safety.

Philos joined Doughty Hanson in 2011 as a London-based member of the investment team.

Prior to joining, he worked at Greenhill in the M&A team where he was closely involved in a number of UK and European buy-side and sell-side transactions and restructurings.

Philos graduated from Bocconi University where he received a degree in Financial Markets and Institutions. He also holds a diploma in Accounting and Finance from the London School of Economics.

Francisco joined Doughty Hanson in 2006 and works with the private equity team investing in Southern Europe. He is a member of the Doughty Hanson private equity investment committee.

From 1999 to 2006, Francisco held various responsibilities investing and managing investments for JP Morgan and successor funds, focusing in the telecommunications and media sectors.

Francisco has a Master of Science degree from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid and a Masters in Business Administration from Duke University.

Yann joined Doughty Hanson in 2003 and heads up private equity activity in France. He is a member of the private equity investment committee and current portfolio responsibilities include KP1 and Tumi.

Prior to joining Doughty Hanson, Yann spent 20 years at McKinsey and Co., during which time he worked in a number of roles that led to his appointment as Managing Director of McKinsey in France. He began his career at McKinsey as an associate in the US. He was made a partner in 1988, and later became a senior partner leading the corporate finance and private equity practices in France before being appointed Managing Director of the Paris office in 1997.

Yann has degrees from the École Polytechnique, École des Mines de Paris, and Institut d'Études Politiques de Paris. He is the author of a book on economic policy (“France S.A.”) and has been awarded the French “Legion d'Honneur”.

Karl joined Doughty Hanson in 2011 and focuses on investments in the Scandinavian market.

Prior to this, he was a partner at ABG Sundal Collier Corporate Finance, where he was responsible for originating and executing transactions in various industries on behalf of a wide range of clients, including private equity houses, listed companies and government-owned businesses.

He previously spent six years in Lehman Brothers' Nordic M&A Team, executing Nordic transactions. He started his career as a management consultant at Accenture.

Karl has an MBA in Finance and Accounting from the Kellogg Graduate School of Management at Northwestern University, and a Masters in Psychology from the University of Stockholm.

Claus joined Doughty Hanson in 1997 and heads up private equity activity in the German-speaking region. He has been responsible for transacting, monitoring and exiting a number of portfolio investments including A.T.U and Moeller. He is a member of the private equity investment committee.

Prior to joining Doughty Hanson, Claus spent seven years with KPMG in its Cape Town and Frankfurt offices where he focused on large corporate audits and corporate finance assignments.

Claus has a Masters degree in Business Administration from the University of Cologne where he majored in tax, accounting and industrial management.

Christopher joined Doughty Hanson in 2006 and focuses on new investments across Europe as well as Avanza, Tumi, TV3 and Vue Entertainment in the current portfolio.

Prior to joining, he worked at Citigroup in the UK M&A team where he was closely involved in a number of UK IPO, buy-side and sell-side transactions. He has also served in the British Army as a platoon commander in the Grenadier Guards.

Christopher has a degree in Classics from St Hugh’s College, Oxford.

John has worked at Doughty Hanson since 1997 and was responsible for the transacting, monitoring and exit of Impress. He focuses on new investments across Europe including new investments in the UK and Central and Eastern Europe, as well as ASCO and Balta in the current portfolio.

Previously he worked for Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers), both in London and Edinburgh, where he was involved in large corporate audits and special corporate advisory work.

John has a degree in Economic History (MA Hons) from the University of Aberdeen and is qualified as a Chartered Accountant.

Richard is the Co-Founder of Doughty Hanson alongside Nigel Doughty. In this role he has overall responsibility for the Firm’s private equity investment strategy and is an investment committee member of Doughty Hanson’s private equity, real estate and technology ventures funds.

He started his career in finance at the London office of County Bank, the former merchant banking subsidiary of National Westminster Bank. In 1985 he joined Nigel Doughty as a founding member of the management buyout unit within the Specialist Financing Division of Standard Chartered Bank. In 1990 Dick and Nigel established CWB Partners, a private equity joint venture between Standard Chartered and Westdeutsche Landesbank. They spun out of CWB Partners to form Doughty Hanson as an independent firm.

Richard has a Bachelor of Science degree (Hons) in Economics from the University of Southampton.

Chris joined Doughty Hanson in 2012 and focusses on Supply Chain as part of the Value Enhancement Group.

Prior to joining, he worked for Dixons Retail PLC where he was Head of Strategy and Operations Development for almost three years. He previously worked for Accenture as an Engagement Manager; and for Capgemini Consulting and Caterpillar Inc., where he gained his Lean Six Sigma black belt.

Chris has an MBA from Warwick Business School and a BSc in Computer Aided Engineering and Manufacturing Technology from the University of Wolverhampton.

Jon joined Doughty Hanson in 2007 and focuses on purchasing and procurement as a member of the Value Enhancement Team.  He works with management teams globally to deliver performance improvements across all categories of spend through strategic sourcing, cash generation, commodity hedging, organisation development, and portfolio-wide sourcing programmes.

Jon has 20 years of experience in international consulting and interim management in Europe, the US, Asia, Middle East and Africa. Prior to joining Doughty Hanson, he was a principal at Efficio, a leading procurement consultancy.  He has also worked at A.T. Kearney, focusing on strategy and operations across a variety of industries.

Jon holds a BA, cum laude, in Economics from Bowdoin College, USA and a Masters of Business Administration from MIT Sloan School of Management.

Julian joined Doughty Hanson in 2000 and has been responsible for transacting, monitoring and exiting a number of investments including Dunlop Standard Aerospace and Moeller. He has been a member of the private equity investment committee since 2006 and current portfolio responsibilities include Balta, Vue Entertainment, ASCO and 20:20 Mobile.  He also works on origination of new investment opportunities across Europe but with a principal focus on the UK.

Prior to joining, Julian spent six years at British Airways in a number of general management roles.

Julian has a Bachelor of Arts in Modern Languages from the University of Durham and a Masters degree in Business Administration from INSEAD.

Pascal joined Doughty Hanson in 2003. Prior to joining, he spent five years with PricewaterhouseCoopers working in its Transaction Services Department in Luxembourg and London.

Pascal has a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from HEC Management School - University of Liege and a MA degree in International Business Analysis from the University of Leicester.

Peter has worked at Doughty Hanson since 2002 and supports the deal team on all executional and structuring issues relating to transactions. Additionally he coordinates all Investment Committee materials and oversees the half-yearly valuation process and associated reporting to Investors.

He joined from global investment management company INVESCO, where he worked as an investment manager specialising in private equity transactions in Central and Eastern Europe. He began his career with Price Waterhouse where he qualified as a Chartered Accountant. Peter is additionally an Associate of the CFA Society of the UK.

Peter has a MA in Modern Languages from Emmanuel College, Cambridge University.

Michal joined Doughty Hanson in 2011 as a London-based member of the investment team. He focuses on new investments across Europe, including new investments in Central and Eastern Europe.

Prior to joining, he worked at JP Morgan, initially as part of the M&A team advising family owned businesses across Europe and the Middle East. He subsequently moved to JP Morgan’s Acquisition and Leveraged Finance team where he focused on high yield bond and leveraged buyout financing in Western and Central and Eastern Europe.

Michal has a masters degree in Finance and Banking from the Warsaw School of Economics.

John joined Doughty Hanson in 2002 as the founding member of the Value Enhancement Group. He has a particular focus on Value Enhancement within the portfolio and is responsible for the identification, implementation and management of strategic processes that enhance value and the promotion of value-creating sustainable business practices across the Doughty Hanson portfolio companies. John has worked extensively on a number of successful investments including RHM, Moeller, Knowles Electronics, Saft and Impress.

Prior to joining Doughty Hanson, John worked in turnaround consulting for five years at PricewaterhouseCoopers and Arthur Andersen. He also has significant industry experience having worked at Quaker Oats and Premier Brands in plant management, finance and business restructuring roles.

John's qualifications include a CPA from the Institute of Certified Public Accountants and a Masters degree in Business Administration from Edinburgh University.

Daniel joined Doughty Hanson in 2011 as a London-based member of the investment team.

Prior to joining, he worked in the Natural Resources team in the M&A group at JP Morgan in London, where he was involved in a number of buy-side and sell-side transactions.

Daniel has a master’s degree in Economics and Business, with a specialization in Accounting and Financial Management, from the Stockholm School of Economics in Sweden.

Julien joined Doughty Hanson in 2011 as a London-based member of the investment team.

Prior to joining, he worked at Bain & Company as a consultant where he was involved in a number of strategic and commercial due diligence projects. He also worked for Solent Capital as a junior quantitative analyst.

Julien graduated from the École Polytechnique. He also holds a Master in Finance and Economics from the London School of Economics and an MBA with distinction from INSEAD.

Alex joined Doughty Hanson in 2006 and focuses on new investments across Europe as well as a number of companies in the current portfolio including HellermannTyton, Norit and TMF.

Prior to joining the firm, he worked for over five years at Close Brothers Corporate Finance, including four years for the Debt Advisory Group where he advised a number of private equity backed companies on their capital structures.

Alex has a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences with Honours in Biochemistry from the University of Edinburgh. He also has a Certificate in Corporate Treasury Management.

Thomas joined Doughty Hanson in 2006 and is part of the private equity team which focuses on German speaking countries.

Prior to joining, he spent almost 20 years at Deutsche Bank, serving in various positions including Structured Finance and Leveraged Finance as well as Debt Restructuring and Private Equity.

Thomas has a Diplom-Kaufmann from the University of Hagen (Germany) and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Wales.

Tim has worked at Doughty Hanson since 2000. He focuses on the origination of new investment opportunities across Europe, and has previously monitored and exited former portfolio companies including Priory, Umbro and Knowles and has worked on a number of acquisitions including Avanza and RHM. Current portfolio responsibilities include LM Wind Power and Vue Entertainment.

He joined Doughty Hanson after spending six years in the London office of PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he was involved in large corporate audits and corporate advisory work, specifically advising on business valuations.

Tim has a Bachelor of Arts degree (BA Hons) in English Literature from the University of Nottingham and qualified as a Chartered Accountant (ACA) with PricewaterhouseCoopers in 1997.

David has worked at Doughty Hanson since 2007 and focuses on investments in the Iberian region and across Europe.

His previous role was as an Associate within JP Morgan where he worked on several M&A transactions, IPOs and leverage transactions both in the Spanish M&A team and in the Advisory team in London. He has also worked as a Business Analyst at CM International in Paris and has completed Internships in the logistics department at L'Oréal in Monaco and in a pre-sales department at IBM in London.

David has a double degree in engineering from the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingenieros Industriales de Barcelona (ETSEIB) and Ecole Centrale Paris (ECP).

Hidde joined Doughty Hanson in 2011 as a London-based member of the investment team.

Prior to joining, he worked in the Benelux investment banking teams of Lehman Brothers and Credit Suisse in Amsterdam, where was closely involved in a number of M&A and capital markets transactions.

Hidde has a master's degree in Business Economics, with a specialization in Finance, from the University of Amsterdam.

Mike has worked at Doughty Hanson since 2005 focusing on supply chain issues within the portfolio as part of the Value Enhancement Group.

Before joining he worked as a consultant to Doughty Hanson portfolio companies for two years and has 14 years’ prior experience as a management consultant, most recently at Ernst & Young, which he joined in 1996. Previously he was a senior project manager with Knox D’Arcy, the international implementation consultants. He has managed large and complex manufacturing and supply chain programmes within a broad range of industries in the UK and overseas.

Mike has a Bachelor of Arts degree (Hons) in Business Studies from Manchester University.
