Doughty Hanson and WWF report highlights the value to the private equity industry of embedding sustainable investment into its business model
In November 2011 Doughty Hanson published a report in partnership with the WWF highlighting the increased returns that private equity firms can generate from a more sustainable approach to investing.
The report, produced with support from PwC, argues that private equity’s governance model is particularly well-suited to promote sustainable business practices through active portfolio company management. It shows that a growing number of institutional investors are encouraging the managers of the private equity funds in which they invest to incorporate environmental, social and governance considerations into their investment analysis and ownership practices.
Using case studies from private equity-backed portfolio companies, including a number owned by Doughty Hanson funds, the report illustrates how a responsible investment approach can create additional value throughout the investment cycle, from pre-investment screening through the ‘hold’ period to exit.
